More than a one way trip

We typically assume that cargo ships crossing the oceans are carrying containers of goods on a one way trip to their destination. However makers of some of the finest spirits and liqueurs are now embracing ‘dynamic’ ageing by sending barrels in containers on a return trip as part of the maturation process.

Just as centuries ago sailing ships transported India Pale Ale and madeira on long voyages, today makers of whisky, cognac and aquavit are doing the same.
